Coverage is comprehensive: doctor visits, hospitalization, surgery, prescriptions, dental, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and mental health — all for approximately NT$750-1,500/month ($24-48). Co-payments are minimal: NT$50-420 per outpatient visit, NT$150-1,400 per day for hospitalization. Wait times are short — you can often see a specialist the same day. Quality is excellent: modern facilities, well-trained doctors, and many English-speaking physicians in Taipei. NHI eligibility begins after 6 months of continuous residence (Gold Card holders enroll immediately).

CTBC Bank, E.SUN Bank, and Cathay United Bank are popular with foreigners. ARC (Alien Resident Certificate) is required for full banking services — issued upon visa approval. Opening an account requires: ARC, passport, initial deposit (typically NT$1,000), and a Taiwan phone number. LINE Bank (digital bank) is increasingly popular and available to ARC holders. Taiwan's banking technology is good but not as advanced as some Asian neighbors. ATMs are everywhere (7-Eleven has them in every store). International wire transfers through Taiwanese banks can be slow — Wise offers better rates and speed. Monthly salary transfers are the standard way to receive payments from employers.
