ExpatTools is run by a small team of independent financial advisers based in Prague, registered with the Czech National Bank and working with expat clients across Europe since 2017. The day job is the unglamorous side of relocation: opening bank accounts, untangling tax residency, fixing insurance gaps, setting up pensions across borders. This site is the reference desk we wished existed — the answers we give in the room, written down.
§1Method
Cost figures are planning estimates for one person living comfortably, cross-checked against rental listings, client budgets and current price levels; they are reviewed in batches, with the review date printed on every page. Scores are our own composite judgement — cost, infrastructure, community, liveability — and we say so rather than dressing them up as science. Tax and visa notes are general orientation, never advice; both change often enough that we link to primary sources and tell you when to hire a professional.
§2Independence & money
The site is free and carries no sponsored content. It earns through clearly marked affiliate links to two services we genuinely set clients up with — Wise for cross-border money and SafetyWing for interim health cover — and through standard display advertising. No partner sees or edits our content, and nothing here is ranked because someone paid for it.
§3Corrections
If a number has drifted or a rule has changed, tell us — corrections ship in the next review batch and we are grateful for them.
