How to use it
GUIDEWhat the numbers mean
METHODProgram terms are maintained country-by-country in the 26 country files on this site and were re-verified in the September 2026 review pass, focusing on exactly the fields the comparator exposes: the income floor you must document, the validity period, and the path to residency or citizenship. Income floors get adjusted by governments more often than anything else in this dataset, and where we know the next adjustment is coming, the country file says so.
Worked example: Portugal is the classic two-program country — the D7 passive-income visa (~€760/month documented passive income) for people funded by pensions, rents or investments, versus the digital nomad visa (~€3,040/month from a foreign employer). Same country, different visa, different income proof, both leading to the EU's fastest citizenship track. The comparator makes the difference visible at a glance.
Common questions
FAQWhy do income floors keep changing?
Because governments use them to throttle volume — Portugal, Thailand and others have all moved theirs. We re-verify in each review batch, but treat a floor quoted on any website (ours included) as subject to the official version at the moment you apply.
Are 'tax-free nomad visas' real?
A few genuinely are — Croatia's digital nomad visa exempts foreign-source income and Greece taxes qualifying nomad income at half — while most countries only exempt it in narrow cases. The country files state what each program actually does; treat 'tax-free' as a claim to verify, not a fact to bank on.
Do I need an immigration lawyer?
For short stays and the well-trodden paths, usually not. Once a program involves company registration, investment, or a move to a country with a reputation for bureaucracy, a local professional is the difference between a six-month wait and a two-year one. We say which steps are safe to DIY in each country file.
