Compare money transfer quotes

For the amount you pay, how much reaches the other account? Enter two current quotes and compare the proceeds after any extra receiving charges.

Free calculator. Your inputs stay in this browser page. No account, email address or bank details needed.

Your two quotes

  1. Get two current quotes. Use providers available to you, with the same total payment, funding method and destination, as close together in time as practical.
  2. Enter the figures below. Include the quoted recipient amount and any extra receiving charges.
  3. Compare the proceeds. Check delivery time, eligibility and quote conditions before choosing.

QUOTE CHECK
  1. Match the total debit. Ask each provider what reaches the recipient for the same total amount leaving your account. If a fee is added on top, include it in “total you pay.” If a fee is already deducted from that total, do not add it again.
  2. Use the same route and funding method. A card-funded transfer and a bank-funded transfer may have different charges. Compare the same recipient currency, destination and delivery method. A quote for a new-customer promotion may not apply to later transfers.
  3. Check what the recipient amount excludes. If a receiving bank will deduct a further 5 EUR, enter it only if the quoted proceeds have not already allowed for it. If you cannot confirm the charges, select “Not checked yet.” The calculator will show a provisional comparison.
  4. Check the quote's time and conditions. Copy offers close together in time. A rate that has expired is no longer a comparable offer. Read the actual provider deadline and conditions rather than assuming a displayed rate is locked.

Worked example: moving a monthly budget

ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY

Suppose two invented quotes both cost you 2,000 USD. Quote A shows 1,760 EUR to the recipient; Quote B shows 1,788 EUR. You have confirmed that neither has any further receiving deductions. An illustrative reference rate is 0.90 EUR per USD. These numbers are teaching inputs, not current exchange rates or any supplier's prices.

MeasureExample AExample B
Total payment2,000 USD2,000 USD
Net recipient proceeds1,760 EUR1,788 EUR
Effective rate after costs0.880 EUR / USD0.894 EUR / USD
Cost against example reference44.44 USD (2.22%)13.33 USD (0.67%)

For the same payment, B delivers 28 EUR more. At the example reference rate, that difference is equivalent to 31.11 USD. If B has an extra receiving charge of 5 EUR that is absent from its quote, its proceeds become 1,783 EUR and its advantage falls to 23 EUR. The sending fee alone would miss this distinction.

If B instead costs 2,020 USD, its larger recipient amount does not establish a saving for a 2,000 USD budget. Request a fresh quote for the same total debit. The calculator does not scale quotes to invent an offer, since fees and promotions may change with the amount.

Calculation method and limits

TRANSPARENT ARITHMETIC

Let P be your total source-currency payment, R the quoted recipient amount, D any additional recipient-currency deductions, and M a reference rate expressed as recipient currency per one source-currency unit.

Net proceeds N = R − D
Effective rate = N / P
Reference proceeds = P × M
Cost versus reference, in source currency = P − (N / M)
Cost percentage = [1 − N / (P × M)] × 100

The cost measure combines the effect of sender charges, the quoted rate and deductions you enter. It is a comparison with your chosen reference, not an itemised supplier fee or a promise that the reference is available for a transfer. Without a reference rate, the calculator still compares proceeds and effective rates but cannot measure cost against mid-market.

Unknown charges are not guessed. Results remain provisional until you confirm them. Negative benchmark cost means the entered proceeds exceed the chosen reference. That can reflect a promotion, different quote timing or an incorrect reference; it does not prove that a transfer has negative fees.

Amounts are displayed using the currency's standard decimal precision where the browser recognises the code. Calculations use unrounded entries. A same-budget comparison requires equal total payments. Tie checks allow a tiny numerical tolerance; the results also explain when a difference is below display precision. This tool does not assess provider safety, fetch rates, predict future prices or execute a transfer.

Common questions

BEFORE SENDING
Can I compare quotes without a reference rate?

Yes. For equal total payments, the quote delivering more after confirmed deductions has higher proceeds in this comparison. A reference rate is only needed to express the gap from a benchmark as a source-currency amount and percentage.

Which way around should I enter the rate?

Enter recipient currency per one source-currency unit. If you pay USD and receive EUR, an example rate of 0.90 means 1 USD = 0.90 EUR. If your source states 1 EUR = 1.1111 USD, take its reciprocal before entering it. For a same-currency transfer, a reference of 1 compares the total payment directly with net proceeds.

Does the result recommend Wise?

No provider has a built-in quote or preferred result. You can label either quote with any provider. The Wise link is an affiliate link for obtaining an actual offer, and Wise may or may not have higher proceeds for your particular transfer. Check its current availability, fees and terms yourself.

Are my inputs sent anywhere?

The calculator code processes entries in your browser and does not store or transmit them. Use “Clear inputs” to reset the entries. Opening a supplier link visits that supplier's site. Ordinary page requests and external resources are covered by our privacy information.
